Student’s Pathway in Aviation at Western Community College
1. Private Pilot License (PPL)
Begin your flying journey with the foundational skills needed to navigate the skies. The PPL program at WCC is a gateway to flying as Pilot In Command of aircraft up to 12,500 pounds, allowing students to carry as many passengers as the aircraft is certified for, during daylight hours under visual flight rules. This license is ideal for those pursuing an airline pilot career or flying for recreational purposes. Note that a PPL does not allow the holder to fly for hire or compensation.
Program Duration and Structure:
• Total duration: 6 to 8 months
• Minimum of 45 hours of flight training
• At least 40 hours of ground school instruction
2. Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
Advance your training with the CPL program at Western Community College, a Transport Canada-approved pathway designed for a professional career in aviation. It equips graduates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to work in Commercial Air Service in Canada.
Program Duration:
• Typically completed in 12-14 months
• Includes a minimum of 65 hours of flight training and 80 hours of ground instruction
• Additional 90 hours of flight time for skill enhancement
3. Dual Credentials
Successfully completing both the PPL and CPL programs provides students with over 110 flying hours and dual credentials, significantly enhancing their prospects in the aviation job market.
